  • Latest Year 10 football result

      The Year 10 boys football team lost 3-2 on penalties (0-0 extra time) in the final of the ‘Tameside Cup.’ It was an extremely close and well fought game. Throughout the cup, the boys have played some excellent football and put in 100% effort into every game. We have beaten some very strong opponents, including Audenshaw, Copley High School and St Thomas Moore.
  • Principal's Newsletter: April 2012

    The April 2012 issue of the Principal's Newsletter has now been released and is available to read online. In this month's issue Mr Davies focuses on the important up coming Year 11 examinations timetables and revision techniques. Also in this edition you can find out about the Geography Field trip which has taken place in East Yorkshire and our latest sport results.

  • Times Spelling Bee Competition 2012

    A team of four pupils from Droylsden Academy took part in an online challenge on Thursday 29th March, in the LRC, to compete against more than 100 schools for a place in the semi-finals. The four students who took part were Jacob Allen, Kaiynath Rabnawaz, Samuel Quinn and William Clare. The team of four elite spellers took part in the online heat, where they were challenged to continue to spell words until they get one wrong.

  • Student Rewards Trip - Rock Climbing

      Year 9 Students rewarded with a trip to have a try Indoor Climbing for showing outstanding behaviour, great attendance and good effort.
  • Community News Issue 8 - March 2012

    In the eighth edition of the Droylsden Academy Community News, you will find up to date information regarding the Academy’s involvement in the local community, charity work and also some helpful advice and contacts.

    In this edition read about the Droylsden Better Together Community Event that took place in the atrium of the Academy just a week after the new building opened its doors to students, the new projects that have started to move forward following this event, the Pride of Droylsden awards which was held at the Academy this month and Schools Plus activities which are held at the Academy afterhours plus much more.

  • Principal's Newsletter: March 2012 | Droylsden Academy

    In the March edition of the Principal's Newsletter read about Mr Davies' views on the up and coming busy examination period for current Year 11 students and the revision programme the Academy has in place to support students. The newsletter also highlights events happening in the LRC this coming term, one of which will be the Summer Reading Challenge which the Academy will be working alongside the public libraries in delivering across Tameside this summer.

    The newsletter also includes news on the retirement of former Droylsden High School for Girls Head, Ms Gail Nicholson, in addition to achievements made by our various sports teams, including student Rebecca Tunney's hopes of being picked to represent Great Britain in gymnastics at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

  • Manners and Respect cards trade-in week!

    This week is Manners and Respect trade-in week where students may trade their cards in for prizes. Students can trade their cards in for a number of prizes subject to them having enough credits. Trade in forms can be picked up from Student Services and must be returned by 2:30pm, Friday 30th March 2012.
  • Academy football team through to Tameside Cup Final

       

    Droylsden Academy year 10 football team maintained their 100% record to the season with a thrilling 4-2 win over Astley Sport’ College, in the semi-final of the Tameside Cup. Team coach, Mr Haslam, was very impressed with the performance and how hard everyone worked. The final will take place on Thursday 26th April 2012. We are looking to get the match played at Droylsden FC stadium.

  • Academy student awarded Pride of Droylsden - Youth of the Year award

    Droylsden Academy student  is proud to announce that Sean Carling, who is 16, and in year 11 has been awarded the Youth of the Year Award 2012 at the Pride of Droylsden Awards ceremony held on the evening of Thursday 15th March 2012. The Youth of the Year award recognises a member of the local community under 18 years of age whose energy, talent or contribution inspires others.

  • Students tackle Army assault course

       

    As part of the Leadership unit of Mr Dixon’s BTEC Sport group, the students participated in the Army’s assault course and teambuilding sessions at the barracks near Bury. As part of the day, the students had to complete logistical problem solving exercises, complete the physical fitness runs and of course tackle the famous obstacle course. The students really enjoyed themselves and are asking to go back!

  • GM Fire Service visit the Academy to discuss the dangers of dangerous drivers

       

    Mr Higgins has recently set up good links with GM Fire Service where the Fire and Rescue teams come in and talk to students about the dangers of dangerous driving. They have come in several times this term and worked with a variety of groups.

    In the February edition of the Principal's Newsletter read about Mr Davies' views on the up and coming busy examination period for current Year 11 students, praise for Project 8 students in the work they have been producing and the up and coming Year 9 Pathways/Options events that will be taking place at the Academy.

    The newsletter also includes news on a future educational residential trip to the Opal Coast, France, events happening in the LRC including World Book Day and the Scholastic Book Club in addition to achievements made by our various sports teams.

  • Letter to parent/carers regarding power issues at the Academy

    Today a letter from the Principal Mr Davies got sent home to parent/carers of students at the Academy outlining the events of the past few days. A copy of the letter can be read here. 

  • Opal Coast Residential in July, a real success!

    In less than 72 hours, the 30 places for the new residential in France have been all been taken. Mr Ribot, Curriculum Leader of MFL, is delighted to see how popular this new residential has been. Mr Ribot says: " Students' voice mentioned that our students wanted a fun-packed good value for money trip to France or Spain to discover a new culture and learn a new language".

  • New educational residential to Opal coast, France

    Building upon the success of the four previous Modern Foreign Languages residentials the past 18 months (Loire Valley, Normandy, Madrid, Paris), Mr Ribot can now confirm that a new residential is planned from the 20th to the 23rd July 2012 for four days. The residential destination is the Opal coast of France.
