Academy Lunch Meals

As most of you are aware, school meals have undergone a considerable change in the past few years. Since September 2009, all secondary schools have to follow legislation which makes sure that each meal served has the correct macro and micro nutrients, as well as having the correct amount of calories, fruit and vegetables. To this end, the menu’s we offer have all been checked with a nutritionalist to make sure that they are compliant with the new legislation. All students are able to make a choice of a healthy meal each day. Fresh fruit and vegetables are always on offer to make sure that the minimum 5 a day can be reached.

The value of a free school meal is £1.70 and for this a student may buy a chef’s special, which consists of a protein dish, vegetables and potatoes, pudding and custard and a drink, either of water or juice.

Cheques are very welcome, could they be made payable to ‘Droylsden Academy’. If parents/carers could write the name of the student on the reverse of the cheque, then it will go onto the correct account. Cheques can either be given directly to a member of the catering staff, or placed in the special box provided.

We operate a cashless system at Droylsden Academy. Students can add money to their account by utilising one of the revalidating machines which can be found around the school. All students have to register their finger against their account. This finger print can only be used on this system and cannot be exported elsewhere. Eventually, the whole school will have finger print access for registration, library and gaining access to certain rooms.

If any parent/carer would like to speak to the catering manager, please phone on the main school number. If any parent/carer would like to come and sample a meal, please contact the catering manager to arrange a convenient time.

Theme days are held once a month, with special occasions celebrated such as Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentine’s Day and patriotic days. Check back here regularly to see the menu for up and coming theme days.
