Academy raises £244.53 for Christie's

On Friday 18th February 2011 we all raised a cup for 'The Christie Hospital' and held a coffee morning which raised a total of £244.53. The day was a huge success with the students being treated to a host of delights including 'pain au chocolat' and 'hot chocolate' proving to be a welcome sight.

The Year 7 students designed an array of colourful posters advertising the event, and the raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and colleagues and included a blackberry curve. There will be a future raffle held for Christie’s with the prize being a mystery gift donated by Manchester City FC.

The event was planned with the help of Jonathon Kynaston Year 9 who was particularly keen for the day to be a success, he quotes, "I was amazed by the generosity of the staff and the students at the Academy and delighted by the amount of money raised for ‘The Christie’, a cause that is very close to my heart."

As in previous years ‘McVitie’s’ eagerly obliged to provide the biscuits and ‘Asda Eastlands’ gratefully donated the tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Miss Thompson Librarian added, "A huge thank you to all who supported the event and to ‘The Christie’ for their amazing work, and dedication to the care of those suffering with cancer."
