BBC News School Report is an annual project involving schools that gives 11-14 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience.

The main aim of BBC News School Report is to interest young people in news of all sorts, and the world around them, by giving them the chance to make their own news. Thus students decide which stories to report with support provided by teachers and the BBC. School Report supports all sorts of learning for instance by helping students develop their ability to work in teams, manage their time, conduct independent enquiries, communicate effectively and think critically.

Droylsden Academy are excited to be getting Year 9 students involved in BBC School Report 2011 where students will make the news for real on School Report Day - 24th March 2011. But you don't have to wait that long to see our budding student journalists report the news as they will be working on news stories from the off.

Check back on the day and keep up to date with all their news reports which will be published on this page.

To find out more information on the BBC School Report project, visit the BBC School Report website, or if you like what you see and think you would like to take part next year please contact Mr Wakefield.

  • Man marries pillow

When the priest who wedded a Chinese couple decided to take on the job, he didn’t think he’d be saying the words, “I now pronounce you man and pillow”. However, that is exactly what he was called upon to do. For Lee Jin-Gyu it was a case of love at first read – he fell in love with a character from an anime book called Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha – and decided to put an image of the women of his dreams, Fate Testarossa, on a pillow and walk her down the aisle wearing a wedding dress.
