Connexions Resource Centre

The LRC is home to the Connexions Resource Centre which houses information on a vast variety of careers and related courses and qualification requirements. The CRC index will direct you to the appropriate location of your career choice and our Connexions resource library monitors will be on hand at breaktime and lunchtime to help with your search. The CRC also has a variety of college application forms and prospectuses for your perusal. If your require assistance with any college queries the CRC is there to help and will happily post any completed applications for you.   

Connexions Adviser

There are two Connexions Advisers that visit the Academy twice a week. The Connexions Adviser can help you to make well informed realistic career choices and assist you with your further education applications and interviews. They can also help you with a variety of personal issues. Appointments can be made with Miss Thompson at the Manor Road LRC.

The details are as follows:-

  • Michelle Plant (Girls only Year's 9, 10 and 11) is in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Barbara Roache (Boys only Year's 9, 10 and 11) is in school Wednesdays and Fridays.

Appointments will take place in the Connexions room at the back of the library.  The Connexions service is aimed at young people and their transition to adulthood. An appointment system is in operation and they will endeavour to see all students at some stage. However there is also a drop-in session at lunchtimes and break times for your convenience.

  • National Apprenticeship Week

    Monday 6th to Friday 10th February 2012 Careersbox is again supporting National Apprenticeship Week. For full details on NCW 2012 visit www.apprenticeships.org.uk National Apprenticeship Week aims to highlight the achievements of apprentices and celebrate the value of Apprenticeships.

  • The Deloitte scholars scheme

    Deloitte’s long standing Scholar Scheme continues to recruit into its Manchester and Southampton offices. The sponsorship scheme is for students who’d like to gain work experience with them between leaving school and starting university.

    Successful students are offered a seven-month paid placement starting in September, plus £1,500 to travel for the rest of their gap year. On top of this, there’s a £1,500 academic bursary for each year of their university study, and at least four weeks’ paid work each academic year.

  • National Enterprise Academy - Open Evening

    The National Enterprise Academy is holding an open evening for school and college leavers on Wednesday 6th April 2011 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Manchester Campus at One Central Park, Northampton Road, Manchester.

Need careers advice?

The Learning Resource Centre computers have the latest career software installed on them, so if you are unsure of what to do when you leave the Academy then why not take a few minutes out and explore the programs available to you.

Kudos is a unique careers matching and information program which helps young people plan their future. Suitable for 13 to 19 year olds, Kudos uses individual interests and qualification aspirations to generate a personalised list of career suggestions. Kudos also inspires young people to explore their own career ideas and discover how suitable they are.

Careerscape is a really useful tool which provides information on education, training and the world of work. You can search over 1800 different job titles and each career entry offers relevant information such as work activities, entry routes and training, pay and opportunities and further information with web and email links.

If you are unsure or get stuck using the programs then do not hesistate to ask the librarians for help, afterall that's what they are there for.
