Debate success!

Today, Miss Brocklebank and Miss Whitehill took the Academy's debate team to the Debate Mate cup at Manchester University; there were 15 other teams there from schools in Manchester.

The team consisted of Emma Bowker, Michelle Saidi, Penny Potts and Taylor Fisher from year 10.
There were only 3 teams who won all their debates, with Droyslden being one of them; this was a great achievement as the other Schools had well established debate teams.

The team only just missed out on going onto the final, finishing in third place.
They were an absolute credit to Droylsden Academy. Their speeches were well structured, well delivered and controlled. It was commented how articulate they were; they were of a different calibre to the other teams!

One of the lead judges commented it was one of the best school teams he has ever seen debate and that we could give some of the experienced London teams a run for their money. He said our team would not look out of place at a University competition. He also commented that Emma's speech was outstanding.

Taylor Fisher won the prize for the most improved male speaker of the whole competition.
