On the week of the 29th November 2010, Droylsden Academy went continental and celebrated European languages in their diversity. Students and staff were greeting each other in another language. Worldwide flags and their equivalent greeting vocabulary cards were displayed around the Academy to promote cultural diversity.
The Languages week encouraged lifelong language learning in and out of school. Teachers included languages and promoted other cultures in their lessons. Mrs Isherwood from the Science department added French key words in her stage not age KS3 lessons for instance and alerted her students about intercultural understanding by showing that the most famous scientists have come from around the globe. The outstanding work of her students is displayed on Cryer street.
Moreover, Mrs Thompson, the librarian, revamped the library to the colours of the world and included some fun activities to increase plurilingualism understanding. Finally, another striking example is Mrs Tewson, our fantastic diner lady, who decided to design a weekly menu from all around Europe every day with a focus on French and Italian food among others.
