On the evening of Wednesday 17th November 2010, Droylsden Academy held the Class of 2010 GCSE Presentation Evening at The Monastery in Gorton.
Students, parent/carers, staff and Governors were welcomed to the event with a drinks reception held in a marquee prior to taking their seats in the main event space, which was the beautifully restored Monastery.
Guests were entertained by Miss Platt and Mrs Croft performing Pie Jesu (Requiem) by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don't Rain on my Parade (from Funny Girl) performed by Lucy Mountfort and For Good (from Wicked) performed by Danielle Foley and Lucy Mountfort both Year 10 students.
Students were individual awarded their GCSE certificates by Mr Davies (Principal) and Ms Haselden (Vice Principal); some also received their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards and certificates for other individual achievements.
The Academy also made eight special awards to the class of 2010 as follows:
- Samantha Coates – Sports Achievement Top Performing Girl
- Ryan Westwood – Sports Achievement Top Performing Boy
- Bethany Micklethwaite – Attendance Award
- Matthew Smith – Endeavour Award
- Chloe Kennedy – Outstanding Progress
- Jasmine Khanom – Academic Excellence Top Performing Girl
- Jack Naylor – Academic Excellence Top Performing Boy
- Saif Rehan – Principal’s Special Award
At the end of the evening the Head Boy and Girl from 2009/10 officially handed over to the Head Boy Josh Fraser and Head Girl Bethany Lowe for 2010/11 and flowers were presented to Ms Kendal from Tameside College (Sponsors of Droylsden Academy).
This was the first Presentation Evening for Droylsden Academy which opened in September 2009.
