What dates do the GCSE examinations start and finish this year?

The dates vary from year to year and we will publish the exact dates when they are confirmed by the Examination Boards. As a rough guide, they usually start mid-May and finish towards the end of June.

What should I do if I want to speak to someone about my child?

Contact the Academy by phone or email and ask to speak with your child’s Year Manager. If you do not know who this is, just give the name and year group of your child and any message will be forwarded to the correct person.

What should I do if I am worried about another child who attends the Academy?

Contact Reception and ask to speak with a member of the Safeguarding Team. Do not give the name of the child to the member of staff on Reception, or discuss your concerns, in case there are issues around confidentiality.

What are the Academy start and finish times?

The Academy is open for students any time from 7.30am. Students have to arrive for 8.30am, the start of the Academy day. The Academy Day finishes at 2.35pm although many students choose to stay to attend extra-curricular activities. Students are expected to attend an additional lesson from 2.35pm to 3.30pm on up to three evenings a week in Year 11, their final year, so that they can get additional study support.

When is the Academy Open Evening?

The Academy Open Evening for this year, 2017, is on Thursday 28th September. The Open Evening will start at 6.30pm and finish at 9.00pm.

When are Parents’ Evenings this year?

Parents’ Evenings for this academic year have been set for the following dates:

Year 7: 

  • Thursday 16th November 2017 4.00pm - 7.00pm (with Form Tutors only)
  • Thursday 21st June 2018 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Year 8: 

  • Thursday 10th May 2018 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Year 9:

  • Thursday 7th December 2017 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Year 10:

  • Thursday 25th January 2017 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Year 11:

Who should I call if my child is going to be absent?

Telephone the main school telephone number (0161 301 7600) and Contact the Reception who will take a message and forward it to a member of the Attendance Team.

What should I do if my child is going to be late?

Contact Reception and let them know what time your child will be arriving and why he or she is going to be late.

What dates are the school holidays?

How do I raise a concern or make a complaint?

The staff and governors at Droylsden Academy are committed to providing a high quality education for your child in a secure and supportive environment. Whilst all concerned strive to achieve their best for the welfare of the pupils at the Academy, it is appreciated that there may be occasions when you have concerns about your child’s education or about particular incidents which have occurred at The Academy. If such a situation arises, we would ask you to follow the procedure outlined in the "Information for Parents: Procedures for dealing with concerns" policy which can be downloaded from the "Key Policies" page of the website.
