The following members currently make up the Governing Body at Droylsden Academy.
Leon has worked in education within Greater Manchester for many years. As well as being a successful senior leader with education, he has held governance roles within primary and secondary schools. In addition, Leon was previously the Chair of Board for a Multi-Academy Trust which successfully oversaw the improvement of two primary and two secondary schools. Leon is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and has been awarded Chartered Manager and Chartered Quality Professional status. He was presented with the national Quality Leader Award by the CQI in 2009. Leon is pleased to have become a Governor at Droylsden Academy at this exciting phase in the school’s development.
John is a retired primary school teacher and headteacher. He enjoyed 25 Years of Tameside based headteacher service, with 22 of them at Greenside Primary School in Droylsden - where he formed long and ongoing local community contacts and friendships. John worked at national, regional and local levels in the areas of integrated leadership, multi-agency service provision and Every Child Matters. His work with the National College in the areas of “Early Years” and “Sure Start” national programmes was recognised. John has been a Governor at Droylsden Academy since the formation of the Governing Body and serves to support both the school and local community in thriving for, and enjoying success in the highest and widest areas of achievement.
Lynn moved to the North West in 1993 and has lived in Greater Manchester for 20 years. She is a senior leader and qualified management accountant who has worked in further education since moving to the North West. Lynn has two daughters who are nearing completion of their journey through education and are currently at university. She would like to continue to help young people to achieve their full potential and is pleased to be a Governor at Droylsden Academy.
John has lived in Tameside for over 30 years. He has been a Sponsor Governor with the Academy since its inception in 2009, chairing the Finance and Premises Committee. He has been a Governor at our Sponsor College since 2002 where he was appointed Chair in 2009. John has worked in the NHS for over 37 years, the past 11 years in General Practice in Bury and Tameside. His career has been predominantly led by finance, including financial accounting, management accounting, capital accounting, charity accounting, governance, performance management and change management. Outside of work, besides being a Governor, John has been a leader in the scouts for many years, but now supports them on an ad hoc basis. The whole of his family have been touched by education in Tameside and his aim is to leave his children, grandchildren and all the residents of Tameside with first class facilities for generations to come.
Since 2016, Nakul has supported Droylsden Academy as a Sponsor Governor in addition to advising on its Finance and Premises Committee. His expertise is in Business and International Finance and he has also spent some time as a teacher of mathematics at a secondary school. He has extensive skills in many areas including strategic planning, data analysis, staff recruitment, leadership and coaching and mentoring. His experiences in public and private company fundraising, mergers and acquisitions lends to provide strategic and operational advice for charities and social enterprises.
Jackie has lived, studied and worked in Tameside and Greater Manchester all her life. She was a pupil at Fairfield High School from 1978 to 1982 and attended Tameside College between the ages of 16 and 19. She is now the Principal of Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College. Jackie has worked within education for many years within Greater Manchester previously working at Salford City College and City College Manchester. She also works as an Ofsted inspector, inspecting other colleges and providers throughout England. As a previous director of an Academy Trust in Salford and Vice Chair of Governors at a Salford primary school, Jackie was very keen to continue work and is delighted to be a Governor at a Droylsden Academy.
Paula is a business development manager for an American conglomerate and has worked with the education sector for the last 15 years. She is currently a Governor at Mossley Hollins High School and, through this role, was invited to become a Governor at Droylsden Academy to help foster strategic links between the two schools. Paula is very hard working, a great team player and loves a challenge.
The Droylsden community is very much at the centre of who Stephen is professionally. He has worked at the Academy for a long time and, with his immediate family coming from the town, Droylsden has been in his heart and soul for many years. As the Staff Governor, Stephen is part of a highly committed staff and a leadership team who are dedicated to improving the life chances of the young people of the community but, equally, governance gives him the opportunity to challenge the Academy’s senior leaders in their joint pursuit of excellence for the local community.
Clare is a qualified accountant and tax specialist of some 20+ years’ experience. She specialised in tax on leaving university and has spent many years advising both large corporates and high net worth individuals with complex tax planning matters. Clare is now studying A-Level Pure Mathematics in order to return to education as a teacher, teaching Maths and French to 11-16 year olds. Her leadership skills and desire to return to education were her motivation for becoming the Academy’s Parent Governor.
