Droylsden Academy introduced a new pastoral house system in
September 2009. There are four houses - two at Cryer Street made up
from a combination of Year 7 and 8's and two at the Manor Road site
made up from a combination of pupils from Year 9, 10 and 11 students.
Each house at Cryer Street has is made up from 10 tutorial groups with
15 tutorial groups making up each house at Manor Road.
The four houses are:
- House A - Mandela House
- House B - Pankhurst House
- House C - King House
- House D - Einstein House
How were the House names chosen?
At the start of the 2009 academic year following the merger of Droylsden High School for Girls and Littlemoss High School for Boys each student was randomly allocated to become a member of a house and tutorial group respectively. Students from each house then had to put forward names of inspirational people with the most popular name then being chosen to become the name of their respected house.
Subsequently each house then had to choose:
- a logo to represent there chosen house name
- a colour
- a mascot
- a charity
- and finally had to nominate a member of their house to be elected as their House Captain
