RE: Wednesday 26th March 2014
You may be aware from coverage in the media that members of the teaching union the NUT have voted to take industrial action on Wednesday 26th March. This will be a single day of action and will result in class or whole school closures across the country.
Since being notified of this decision by the trade unions, the Academy has undertaken a risk assessment to establish the impact on the Academy of the strike action.
The decision to close a school or send students home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, I have no choice but to take appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all students.
Droylsden Academy will be open to students in Years 10 and 11 only. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will not be attending the Academy on the 26th March and I therefore ask you to make alternative childcare arrangements on that day.
On behalf Droylsden Academy and the Governors, I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
