Dear Parent / Carer
You may be aware that the current National Curriculum is going through some important reforms at present. In fact these are the most significant changes in almost a quarter of a century. There are new programmes of study which set out expectations at the end of each key stage, and all schools are developing a curriculum relevant to their students that teaches this content. It is therefore vitally important that our new curriculum concentrates on the essential knowledge and skills that every child should have to be successful.
As well as the changes to the programmes of study (content) there are also major changes to the way that students’ progress and attainment is measured and reported.
We are committed to ensuring that our students get the very best teaching and learning opportunities and our teachers have been planning for these important changes for some time. In order that this can be achieved our Governing Body has agreed to an additional INSET (teacher training) day on Friday 21st July. Students will therefore not be in school on this day. Students will finish for the summer holiday on Thursday 20th July at 2.35pm.
I appreciate that this is an addition to the school calendar and I would like to apologise for the possible inconvenience that this may cause. However, I feel that it will be time very well spent given the significant changes that the Government have introduced and I would like to thank you for your support.
