Scholars Programme

What is it?

The Scholars Programme is aimed at high performing students at KS3. Doctoral and post-doctoral researchers will deliver programmes of academic enrichment through a combination of university trips, in-school tutorials and online resources. Students are able to develop the knowledge, skills and ambition needed to progress to highly-selective universities.

How does it work?

The Scholars Programme begins with a launch trip at the University of Manchester where students meet their PhD Tutor and take part in their first tutorial. Over the course of the programme students will take part in University-style tutorials in the Academy. The students will submit an extended final assignment and that will be graded on the university grid. The certificates will be awarded at the University in a graduation ceremony.

The programme is updated every year and, in recent years, has included:

• Is Ebola the Next International Pandemic?
• Why are roads bumpy?
• Machine Learning and Big Data: Improving Coin Sorting Efficiency
• Ballads, Banquets and Bling: Conspicuous Consumption in Early Modern England
• Volcanic Hazards – Interactions of people and volcanoes
• Dual Tasking During Gait, Brain Function and Diagnosis of Neurodegenerative Disease

There are many more and the research will be tailored to the specific students and their areas of interest.
