What will be the situation with lockers?

Lockers will be offered on a first come first served basis to all our students.

Where will students get changed for PE before the gyms are finished in September 2012?

All the indoor facilities including the changing rooms and sports hall will be finished in time for the opening of the new building in January 2012. It is only the outdoor facilities that have a later completion date.

When will the Academy be finished?

The new building is still on schedule to be finished by the beginning of January 2012

Will the toilets be mixed in the new Academy?

No, there will be separate facilities for boys and girls.

Will we have big Food Technology rooms?

Catering is one of the specialisms for the Academy so the rooms for preparing and cooking food are state of the art.

What type of landscaping would be implemented to ensure the Academy compliments the surrounding area?

The landscaping will be sympathetic to the area.

Will the Academy be illuminated at night?

The Academy will be appropriately illuminated when in use and when the Academy is closed.

Where are the pedestrian entrances to the site, would students be accessing the building through parked and moving vehicles?

Student and visitor access will be by designated pedestrian walk ways which will be fenced and away from vehicles.

Toilet facilities and changing rooms – are they easy to locate, are the facilities single sex?

There are separate toilet and changing facilities for male and female students. Toilets are situated on all levels of the Academy building.

In December why will the two sites close at the same time, can the Cryer Street Site not be kept open until January 2012?

Both Academy sites will close on the 16th December to allow all staff to pack-up and move into the new build in preparation for the students returning in January. Discussions are still being held about the possibility of a phased move to the new building in early January.

Will the new building be finished on time?

Yes. Students will be moving into the new Academy building in January 2012 on schedule.

Will students have lockers?

There will be approximately 750 lockers available for students.

How much music equipment (drum kits, guitars) will there be in the new building?

There will be a music room, a music technology room a large practice room for drums plus 2 other practice rooms. There will also be a recording studio.

Since the classrooms are going to have more than one class going on in each classroom won't it be hard for the pupils to concentrate?

The new design will be a combination of traditional classrooms and other spaces that will allow group work and other ways of working.

This will require different skills from students and more concentration skills. It may feel very different to begin with.

Are we having iPads in the new school?

We haven’t made a decision yet about what kinds of hand-held device we will be using in the new building.

Will sex education still be part of the PHSE in Year 8 curriculum?

Sex education will remain a part of the curriculum for our students but parents do have the option to ask for their child to disapplied from this at any time.

Will all students have their own locker in the new building.

With 750 lockers provided we envisage that every student that would want a locker can have one.

How many students will there be in the new Academy including the 6th form?

1200 students plus 200 students in the 6th form .

What kind of hand-held devices will we have in the new Academy?

There will be a wealth of ICT devices used in the new building. A decision has not yet been made about what type of hand-held device will be given to our students.

What time would we start and finish school when we move into the new building?

Any changes to the times that we start and finish would have to go out to full consultation with Parents and Governors from the Academy. At present there are no plans to change the timings of the Academy.

How much is being spent on the new Academy building?

The figure for the building is £28 million but there has been an additional £2 million investment in the ICT infrastructure.
