At Droylsden Academy we seek to produce Ladies and Gentlemen of good influence: Students who are Polite Hardworking and Honest. Our Pastoral team gives help and support to students as well as providing information, advice and guidance. We always work in close partnership with teachers, parents/cares and other specialist agencies.
Our aim is to identify any concerns or issues at the earliest possible opportunity and remove any barriers to learning which may be preventing our students from reaching their potential and working hard in every lesson. We pride ourselves in knowing our young people well and working alongside the teaching and support staff we aim to develop positive relationships with them and their families. We respond as quickly as possible to any issues and ensure that difficulties are discussed and resolved in the best possible way.
The Pastoral Support Team at Droylsden Academy offers help and support in the following areas so all students do the best that they can:
The pastoral system is the responsibility of Mrs Arnold the Deputy Headteacher who oversees all staff working in this context with our young people. The Form Tutor is the first point of contact for parents/carers regarding any concerns or issues. The Pastoral Team itself has five Heads of Year who are all experienced teachers and pastoral leaders. They are responsible for their year group and oversee a team of three non teaching, dedicated Pastoral Managers. This team has many years of combined experience working with young people and providing academic and emotional support in a variety of ways.
The pastoral staff knows the students in their year group extremely well and continuously monitor their progress in all aspects of school life. For any students causing concern, referrals for support and intervention can be made by the pastoral support team, classroom teachers, parents/carers and support staff.
Droylsden Academy has a team which includes the school’s Learning Support Faculty Leader, several Counsellors, an attached Attendance Leader and Officer, targeted youth support and a School Nurse. We also work closely with other support agencies such as the Local Authority social inclusion team, Children's Social Care and many others.
The first point of contact should be your child'd Learning Tutor followed bythe Head of Year/Year Manager responsible for your child’s Year group. They can be contacted through the main switchboard on 0161 301 7600.
