Roaming Romans visit Academy

As part of their GCSE History examination, students studying History today learnt about the progession and regression made in the area of medicine throughout different ages of history - from pre historic to modern day. To further develop student's understanding, the Academy has developed links with a Roman reenactment group who came in to show students artefacts and question their knowledge and understanding of the historical period.

Students were shown medical instruments and battle equipment, as well as delving into experiences Romans would have in the public health area with special attention paid to the public baths and toilets which 'kicked up a stink' with some students!  Comparison was made to how the techniques introduced almost 2000 years ago are still used in a smilar way in modern day medicine and society. Students also explored how the Romans helped Britain develop from its primitive state to a more advanced society, before converting back to a regressive state once the Romans left leaving the Britons in the dark ages.
