SCHOOL OPEN AS NORMAL FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER

Dear Parents and Carers,

Update at 2.45pm 14/12/17: SCHOOL OPEN FOR ALL STUDENTS FROM NOW ON

Please see my message below, from 10.30am, which explains what happened today. Thank you again for your understanding, and apologies once again for the inconvenience which has been caused.

The Site Team and Engineers have been working on the problem all day today and we are now able to confirm that school will be open tomorrow for all year groups as normal.

Our site staff have worked tirelessly to dry all rooms and make them safe, which means that there will only be one classroom out of action tomorrow and we will re-timetable that room.

Thank you once again.

Dear Parents and Carers,

10.30 AM UPDATE; SCHOOL OPEN AS NORMAL TOMORROW

UPDATE ON DROYLSDEN ACADEMY PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE FOR YEARS 7-9 ,THURSDAY 14TH DECEMBER

THE ACADEMY WILL BE OPEN AS NORMAL TOMORROW, FRIDAY

I write to thank all parents of our Y7-9 pupils for their understanding this morning. I am working with the site team and our engineering contractors to ensure there is no repeat. I would also like to thank students in Years 7-9 and 10-11 for their superb maturity this morning when we all became aware of the situation. The students were polite, helpful and co-operative, as we have come to expect.

As I said to you in my last update, we have had problems with the circuit boards that manage our water systems in school. The main circuit board was repaired recently and this system is working. The secondary circuit board feeding part of the building failed yesterday evening and then came back on, leading to open units and taps flooding key spaces.

At school we are looking at our internal procedures to put in more checks to ensure this situation does not repeat itself. At the same time, the sub-contracted engineers will be attending today, checking the circuit boards.

I am fully aware that this will have caused families great inconvenience. You know how much we value attendance and learning every day and we are doing everything within our power to ensure this does not happen again, relying on our contractors to help us in this process. Those teachers who are not teaching at the moment (as they would have been teaching a Y7, 8 or 9 class) are using the time to mark and analyse how well our Year 11s did in their recent mock (PPE) exams so that they can offer more help to students. They are also looking at schemes of work to ensure that work missed today, as far as possible, is built into learning before the Christmas break.

We have had so many understanding texts and calls from parents who know we were trying to put the safety of their children first and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your huge level of support.

Yours faithfully,

Mr P Wilson
