Sports Achievements

  • Under 14’s Table Tennis Champions

    After competing in 3 weeks of heats at Copley High School, 5 pupils from Droylsden Academy advanced to and took part in the Tameside Under 14’s Table Tennis Competition Final at Alder High School on Wednesday 19th October. Droylsden Academy played 6 matches in total against Hyde Technology School, Alder High School and Copley High School with Droylsden Academy winning 6 out of 6 and only losing a handful of games on the way. Droylsden were crowned champions.  

  • Academy Badminton team represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester School Games

    Droylsden Academy Key Stage 3 girls Badminton team represented Tameside at the Greater Manchester School Games on Wednesday 6th July 2011. The event was hosted at the Manchester Velodrome. The girls representing the Academy were Aashi, Paige, Zoe, Ellie and Lana.

  • Tameside Athletics

    Tuesday 5th July 2011 Tameside Athletics was hosted by Fairfield High School at Sports City National Athletics Centre. Many of Droylsden Academys promising athletes participated within the event. All were impeccably behaved and competed to a high level.

  • Academy girl's participate in active coaching day

    Students participated in an active coaching day aimed at increasing quality of leadership to gifted and talented leaders. Students from Year 8 and 10 participated in the event and thoroughly enjoyed the day learning new activities, skills and drills in addition to receiving a qualification.
     

  • Students attend Handball Leadership Course

    Four students from the Academy recently participated in a Handball Leadership course which has gained them all a coaching qualification in additon to vital experience that they will take back to the Academy to set up their own Change 4 Life Handball Club.
     
  • Droylsden go head-to-head with Denton Community College in the football

    Droylsden Academy boys football teams had a successful week of fixtures against Denton Community College coming away with two spectacular wins and a hard earned draw.

     

  • Girls Under13's play at Edgerley Park

    Miss Sanderson took her Droylsden Academy Under 13's Girls football team to play in the final of a 6-a side competition ran by Stockport County at their Edgerley Park stadium on Wednesday evening infront of a crowd of 4,700 people.     
  • U13's Girls Football success

    The Girls Under 13's football team took part in a recent 6-a-side competition ran by Stockport County at Houldsworth Mill and have successfully earnt a place in the final. The final will be held at Stockport County's Edgeley Park ground, during the half time break of their Football League 2 game against Port Vale on Tuesday 23rd November 2010.  
  • Students put through their paces at Activ8

    On Thursday 30th September 2010, four students were taken to an Activ8 physical activity morning at Curzon Ashton Football Club, and cycling track in Ashton. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the morning, and were all fantastic at both activities! Well done to Jessica Cummins, Paige Kelly, Kavan Entwistle and Callum Gates.

       
  • Dedicated Academy gymnast Rebecca Tunney attends UK School Games

    On the weekend of 4th - 5th September 2010 the Academy's Rebecca Tunney attended the UK School Games in Gateshead, a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age. She was supported by her mother and grandparents who came up from Wales for the weekend.

  • Students experience Lacrosse at the venue of the 2010 LIF World Lacrosse Championships

    Year 7 and 8 students from the Academy experienced a day of Pop-Lacrosse coaching at the Armitage Centre in south Manchester to celebrate the start of the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships which will be held at the Manchester University Sports grounds, The Firs.
  • Sport Achievements: Quad Kids

    The Year 7 Quad Kids team took part in a competition at East Cheshire Harriers on Monday 21st June 2010 and came third overall.

  • Students reach Tameside School Swimming Finals

    A big thank you to all swimmers whom represent the Academy on Thursday 6th May 2010 especially those students whom made the finals which will take place on Friday 14th May 2010.
  • Cross Country: Pupils complete course in the cold

    Cross Country took part on another wintry day in November.  But credit to the pupils who did little complaining and all carried out the course to the best of their ability.
  • Cheerleading - "Droylsden Divas"

    Year 7 Droylsden Academy Cheerleaders, named the "Droylsden Diva's" take part in the Tameside Cheerleading Festival.
  • Badminton - KS3 Girls win Tameside Plate

    KS3 girls Badminton Team win the Tameside Plate competition.
  • Girls U14 's Football standing strong

    U14s girls football has kick started fantastically and after 3 months we currently stand in 4th position in the league.
