The Academy Day

All students are welcome at the Academy from 7:30am each morning,  From 7.30am - 8.15am breakfast items and drinks are available to purchase.  For a full list of what is served on a daily basis, please take a look at the School Meals section of our website.

Registration

The Academy Day starts for all students at 8:30am prompt when registration takes place. Punctuality is very important and has a direct impact student progress. If your child arrives after this time you should provide them with a note to explain their lateness, otherwise they will be given a detention to make up for the time that they have lost.

Registration lasts for a 15-minute period where students will be registered in their learning tutorial groups. During this time each day a different whole year assembly will take place for each year group, with all learning tutorials in that year attending. Assemblies are themed and either led by senior members of staff or Heads of Year.

Assembly Timetable

  • Year 11 : Monday
  • Year 10 : Tuesday
  • Year 9 : Wednesday
  • Year 8 : Thursday

Lesson 6

Our school day does not end at 2.35pm and most students complete at least another hour of learning beyond that. For students who arrive in Year 7 without the necessary literacy and/or numeracy skills to succeed at secondary school, we provide 2 additional lessons per week of Catch Up. These are compulsory and students benefit from high quality, free tutoring in small groups leading to progress. There are compulsory Lesson 6 programmes for many of our GCSE courses as well as a wide range of other Lesson 6 sessions for students in all year groups.

Getting to school

To get to and from the Academy, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we have bike-racks. Getting to the Academy by bus is also an option, see Getting Here page for more information. However, if you do need to travel by car, we ask that you please park wisely.
