The Art of Identity - Manchester Museum
A group of our Year 9 art students have had their work selected for an exhibition at Manchester Museum called 'The Art of Identity'. Each student created a tile exploring the theme of identity and the place where they live. Working with Artist Lucy Burscough gave our students the opportunity to try out new techniques using an 'encaustic' technique through applying layers of wax to their tiles.
Previously, the whole of Year 9 had visited Manchester Museum and worked alongside Dr Campbell Price, Curator of Egyptology where the students explored the idea of identity through looking at the Greco- Roman paintings on display in the Egyptology Gallery.
A big thank you to the students and their families who attended the opening of the exhibition at the museum on Wednesday 9th July 2014 with Miss McCarthy and Mr Mortimer. Lucy Burscough, Dr Campbell Price and Cat Lumb and the Secondary Education Co-ordinator were very pleased with the work our students had produced. Well done to all the students who participated in the workshops.
The project was funded by The Prince's Trust for Children and the Arts and runs from 9th July until 5th September 2014. The admission is free.
