On 24th April, Droylsden Academy under 16’s football team played New Charter. The venue for the match was Audenshaw high school. It is worth noting that this team has reached the Tameside final two years running.
The game was a great final and a good advert for boy’s football. After twenty minutes, Droylsden Academy took the lead through DJ Horan. The rest of the game was end to end attacking football. With the last kick of the game, New Charter equalised to send the game into extra time.
Early into extra time, New Charter was awarded a penalty which they scored to take a 2-1 lead. Droylsden Academy piled on the pressure for the remainder of the match, but could not produce another goal. The final score was Droylsden Academy 1 New Charter 2.
Droylsden Academies support for the final was superb with many students and staff attending.
At the moment the under 16’s team are top of the league and if they can win it, it would make it a great season for them.
The team was Max Barraclough, Elliott Braithewaite, Rhys Taylor, Jack Ward, Kaine Hickman, Connor Pridding, Ross McCarthy, Adam Crawshaw, Jack Eaton, Josh Statham, DJ Horan, Connor Burgess, Jamie Nolan and Connor Roberts.
