Droylsden Academy's first musical school production, West Side Story, will take place in early 2012. Auditions for the show will start next month. 

West Side Story is set in New York City in the mid-1950's, the musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks from Puerto Rico are taunted by the Jets, a white working-class group.

West Side Story auditions will be taking place on the following dates: Monday 27th June 2011, Manor Road, 3pm - Lead Roles (Years 7-10) Tuesday 28th June 2011, Manor Road, 3pm - Chorus (Years 9 and 10 only) Wednesday 29th June 2011, Cryer Street, 3pm - Chorus (Years 7 and 8 only)
