Admissions
The Tame River Educational Trust is the Admissions Authority for Droylsden Academy and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions. The Tame River Educational Trust has elected to use Tameside MBC’s admission process; therefore, the co-ordination and administration of admissions is undertaken by the Local Authority.
Admission of Year 6 students into Year 7
Local Authorities from across Greater Manchester have a system of coordinated admissions and applications are made using the Local Authority form for the area in which you reside. The closing date for applications is normally 31st October for places for the following September. Further information, and the appropriate application form, can be found on your Local Authority website under ‘School Admissions’.
The allocation of Year 7 places for Academies and High Schools is finalised in January and February of each year and families across the country are informed of the allocated school for their child on ‘National Offer Day’ at the beginning of March.
Once we receive a finalised list of those Year 6 students who will be joining us that year, we arrange a series of transition meetings and events from May onwards to ease the transfer from primary school. These include: a new intake evening for parents/carers and induction days when students experience a range of lessons, familiarise themselves with the school’s values and routines and get to know the tutor group to which they will belong in September. In addition, key staff visit the main primary schools to discuss transfer information with appropriate teachers and staff.
In year admission of students who already attend a High School
If your child already attends a High School and you wish to apply for an in-year transfer from their current school to the Academy, then applications should also be made through the Local Authority in which you reside. Again, further information, and the appropriate application form, can be found on your Local Authority website under ‘School Admissions’.
How do we compare?
The tables on the ‘Compare Schools’ https://www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables site give information on the achievements and progress of pupils in local secondary schools, and how the schools compare with other schools in the Local Authority (LA) area, and in England as a whole. The tables include information on:
