Sports Fixtures and Results

Sports day 2024

During July 2024, all students and staff gathered on the school field to cheer on Droylsden Academies athletes. Across a range of track and field events all four houses, Albion, Saxon, Oakfield, and Victoria go head to head for their final competition of the year. Each year a large number of students participate in sports day aiming to beat the opposing house teams in the final showdown or even exceed school records, during the most recent sports day 4 students excelled the school records in:

  • Year 7 boys Javelin (25.4m)
  • Year 7  Boys Long Jump (1.4m)
  • Year 9 Boys High Jump (1.5m)
  • Year 10 Girls High Jump (1.35m)

A huge congratulations to those students for their achievement!

All the participating students’ hard work and spectating students’ encouragement paid off, the results were close!

But a huge congratulations to Victoria House who came 1st in our 2023-2024 Sports Day, what a way to end the academic year!

Dance Academy

Across the academic year our Dancers took part in a number of events, showcasing the talent we have here at Droylsden Academy. Our students were successful in being selected to perform at the National Dance festival, ‘U.Dance’, North West platform held at the Lowry. During the day our students took part in workshops with Dance at Salford University and Coalesce Dance Theatre before opening the evening performance in the Quays theatre. As well as U.Dance, our students also had the opportunity to be the curtain raiser performance for the University of Salford’s masters in professional dance ‘Emergence’s’ triple bill performance, the finale performance of their tour. Students took part in a fantastic workshop before their performance at the New Adelphi followed by watching the exciting show directed by Joss Arnott! As well as performing, Dance Academy have engaged with a number of industry professionals to develop their skills within the dance world. We had a visit from Matthew Bourne New Adventures dancer, Christina Gibbs, whilst on tour performing ‘Edward Scissorhands’, who taught our students a contemporary ballet technique class and repertoire from the Phantom of the Opera, widening our students dance experiences and movement vocabulary. The Dance Academy is excited about the next year and what opportunities may arise!
